The Lion and the Mouse

One day, a large, strong lion lay in the sun, sleeping peacefully. His golden fur gleamed in the light, and his mighty mane waved gently in the wind.

Suddenly, the lion woke up because he felt something on his back. It was a small mouse running across him. The lion roared loudly and caught the mouse with his huge paw.

“How dare you disturb me?” he growled. “I could eat you right now!”

The mouse trembled with fear but spoke bravely: “Please, Lord Lion, spare me! If you eat me, a tiny mouse, you won’t even be full. But if you let me go and grant me my life, I will one day save yours.”

The lion laughed loudly. “You, a tiny mouse, want to save my life? That’s ridiculous!” he exclaimed. But he was in a good mood, so he let the mouse go.

“Thank you, good lion! I will repay you, I promise!” squeaked the mouse and ran away.

Some time later, the lion was strolling carefreely through the forest when he suddenly got caught in a trap. Hunters had set up a large net, and the lion had walked right into it. He roared in anger and fear, but he could not free himself.

The mouse heard his roar. She hurried over, saw the net, and said, “Don’t worry, Lord Lion! I am here to help you.”

With her sharp teeth, the mouse began to gnaw through the thick rope. Bit by bit, she chewed until the net tore apart and the lion was free.

“You saved me!” the lion said gratefully. “I never thought such a small mouse could accomplish such a great deed.”

The mouse smiled and said, “Sometimes, even the smallest can achieve something truly great.”
